Replace middle pane with row of buttons

I find the middle pane is overkill when it is only for simple navigation. I would rather have this horizontal space to provide more room for song titles etc. Making the button text optional would be a start in the right direction.

It would be nice to be able to have the buttons across the top or bottom so they don't take up any horizontal space at all.
